LG has launched two of its budget offerings, W10 and W30. LG which has been mostly interested in the premium segments all these years, suddenly put its attention towards the budget segment. There might be multiple reasons behind this, but one of them is gaining the market share. LG’s market share has been on a steady decline, and there is no harm in saying that it has lost out to the Chinese competitors. However, with W10 and W30, LG plans to turn around things and can hope to get a strong foothold in the market. LG W10 is priced at Rs.8,999 while W30 is priced at Rs.9,999. Both the phones are priced smartly under 10K to attract the budget buyers. Both of these modes are available on Amazon. However, you need to register beforehand as they are being sold through flash sales. These phones are targeted towards internet savvy customers, who just need the phone for performing multiple tasks on the internet.
If we speak about LG W30, it has got some cool features with cool design, which takes it above its offering price. The phone has got a premium look even at this price point. The sides of the phone are chrome plated, while the back has got brushed aluminum. The back of the phone is covered with the 2.5D curved plastic. The phone is available in two different colors, platinum grey, and thunder blue version. The front glass has got rounded edges, which actually makes the phone look good. The rounded edges also make the phone comfortable for the user to hold. However, even though the phone is stylish, it is not sleek. With 8.5 mm thickness, it is more towards the thicker side. At 172 gm, it is extremely light. From the design perspective, we feel LG has given a lot of thoughts while designing the product in such a way so it’s comfortable to use as well as it looks stylish as well.
The LG W30 has got an HD+ display, and the phone display is not exactly, crisp and sharp. It is pretty average. W30 comes with a screen size of 6.26 inches. It has got a bezel-less display with a waterdrop notch. The screen size is big enough, but with HD+ display the text and the low-resolution images are not going to be sharp. W30 has got the SIM Tray slot located at the left. It can accommodate two 4G nano sims, that provide VoLTE as well as ViLTE connections. However, there is a catch, the second sim slot also doubles up as the microSD card slot. So, if you are using the second SIM slot, you cannot use a microSD card for expanding the memory. Obviously, this is a drawback for this model but it has more to do with the pricing. So, you need to choose between a second connection or an expanded memory. Another drawback of this phone is, it doesn’t have a USB Type C port. Majority of the budget phones, right from Nokia to Redmi, has got USB Type-C port.
LG W30 comes with the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, which is just an entry-level chip with average performance. This chip is used by many of the entry-level phones, such as RealMe and Coolpad at a lower price range. With the price slightly on the higher side, LG could have gone ahead with something better. Ideally, Helio P70 would have been a much better choice at this price range. This phone has got only one variant, that is 3GB RAM with 32 GB storage, which is not bad. For daily usage 32 GB is quite good, if you don’t download games and fancy apps, quite often. In practice we have seen, iPhone SE with 32 GB internal storage works quite well. So, 32 GB is going to be just perfect, but you can always increase the storage by sacrificing the second SIM slot.
This LG phone has got most of the options in terms of connectivity. This includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.3, USB OTG, and some of the regular sensors. It has also got FM Radio, which is quite unusual on phones of today’s era. This phone is Widevine L3 certified, which actually limits playing videos from video on demand apps, in HD resolution or higher. The phone will be shipped with Android 9. It has Rear Fingerprint Sensor and Face Unlock as well. The battery on W30 is quite powerful, as it comes with 4000 mAh battery, which is not user replaceable. LG W30 comes with triple camera setup at the rear, that is 12 + 13 + 2 MP. The 12 MP camera comes with f2/0 aperture. The 13MP camera is made up of wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, and the 2MP camera will have a depth sensor. While it will have 16 MP selfie camera. The camera is not bad at all with this price. We saw some of the sample images, and they are really impressive.
