Samsung Galaxy A80 is on sale now: Check out its specifications and features

Samsung has definitely come out to please both budget segment customers as well as the premium segment customers. This is a strategy which most of the mobile phone vendors have adopted. Both segments are quite important for survival and have their own set of customers. Even Xiaomi has adopted the same strategy. Only the chosen ones such as Apple and Google have stuck to its premium offering, and it seems they will persist with that. However, in today’s mobile market, certainly, it’s not a wise decision at all. We have already seen the sales of Apple has gone down, and Google never made it in the top five. Samsung has persisted with the M series line-up for the budget segment and A-series line-up for those customers who are looking for a premium experience at a cost which is less than the S-Series phone. The good news is Samsung A80 has gone for sale finally, after its launch in last year. Going by the specification it is definitely a good phone, priced a little bit higher at Rs. 47,999 for a variant that has 8GM RAM with 128 GB storage. The phone is available in all online as well as offline stores. Both Amazon & Flipkart has launched this phone on their portal, with lucrative offers, like instant card offers and no-cost EMI. The phone will be available in three color options, Phantom Black, Ghost White, and Angel Gold. If you have a Citibank credit card you can get 5 percent cashback, while with the exchange you can get Rs.3000 additional discount. Flipkart is also offering an additional discount on certain cards.

Samsung A80 is a dual sim phone, which can accommodate two 4G sims. Initially, it was rumored that Samsung would offer 5G on this, and this would be Samsung’s first 5G phone in India. The phone will be shipped with the latest Android Pie. A80 has got a quite large screen with 6.7-inch screen size.  One can almost use this phone as a tablet.  It is a full HD+ screen with 1080 X 2400 pixels. The screen is Super AMOLED, with the flagship infinity display which Samsung ships in their premium offerings. The aspect ratio is 20:9, that means you can get a crisp image without any crop. It has got an in-display fingerprint sensor, that means the fingerprint sensor is located under the display. The phone will be shipped with Snapdragon 730G SoC which comes with an octa-core processor, and 8 GB RAM. It’s going to be a typical high-performance phone like we expect in a premium offering. Snapdragon 730G SoC is known for superior multi-tasking, and power saving.

The phone has got an interesting camera setup. It has got a rotating camera setup which comes equipped with 48 MP lens, f/2.0 lens and an 8MP secondary lens, that will have ultra-wide-angle 123-degree f/2.2 lens. It also has got a 3D depth camera which comes with an IR sensor. Now let’s speak about the most interesting aspect of this camera. When you try to click a selfie, the rear camera slides up and then rotates to click the selfie. This is something new, and we have not seen this till now in any of the Indian launches. This also means that you get same image quality for both the selfies as well as images clicked through the rear camera. However, it is a motorized effect as the camera needs to be rotated mechanically which is going to consume the battery. However, apart from that camera looks innovative and powerful. In fact, Samsung has made the rotating camera as USP for marketing the phone. Not only hardware, but Samsung has also provided some of the premium utilities that can take your photography to the next level. One of them is “Super Steady” mode, which is known for the reduction of video shake. With this, you can just shoot a professional quality video on A80. Similarly, there is another powerful utility called “Scene Optimise”, which is capable of recognizing the scenes and enhancing them accordingly. It can do this for up to 30 scenes. Another good utility is “Flaw detection”, which can detect the flaws or the glitches in a particular image before the actual image is clicked.  The end result is, you get an enhanced quality image. With the help of 3D depth, one can shoot Live Focus still images and videos. Overall, photography should be fun on this phone. Even without proper experience and professional skills, one can do professional photography.

The onboard storage on this phone is 128 GB, which should be enough for daily usage. However, the storage cannot be expanded, so if someone requires more than 128 GB, then obviously this phone is not for them. The phone includes all the popular connectivity modes such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G Volte, A/GPS and Type-C USB connectivity. The phone will be shipped with a powerful battery of 3,700 mAh, with 25W fast charging.
